Espresso Amber Tasting

This beer comes from a brewing company that I had, up until this point, never heard of.  This is an Espresso Amber (as opposed to the widely popular espresso stout) from the Peak Organic Brewing Company.  This beer comes in at 6.8% abv.

Aroma:  This beer has a strong aroma of coffee, which is unsurprising.  Not much else comes through, though, aside from a slight sweetness.

Appearance:  Dark amber color, though fairly clear despite the dark color.  It has a tan head of big bubbles that dissipates fairly quickly.  Not much visible carbonation.

Flavor:  This beer has a very complex flavor.  The espresso flavor is very up front.  The malts come through with a slight hint of caramel.  Not much hop flavor, but it works well with the bitterness of the coffee in this beer.

Mouthfeel:  Smooth and creamy.  This is a fairly heavy beer, the coffee giving it a weight that isn’t usually perceived in an amber.

Overall Impression:  This is a very tasty beer, perfect for a special occasion.  It is better than many “espresso” beers, and makes us want to look further into the Peak Organic line.  From Jess, “The adult’s iced coffee.”  This beer would go great with heavy desserts, such as chocolate cake, tiramisu, or even as a reduction and put over vanilla ice cream.
